Internship – Development & Implementation of Environmental and Social data for The Gambia
Your assignment
The world is facing significant challenges due to climate change, with some areas being more severely affected. Such is the case of The Gambia, where flooding, drought and coastal erosion threaten the country’s food and economic safety. To better prepare for these challenges, it is crucial to have a full view and understanding of the situation and resources. Although there is a lot of data currently available, they are scattered across various Gambian government departments.
Weather Impact is developing “The Gambia Webportal”, to gather environmental and socio-economic data from The Gambia. This includes data such as meteorological data, climate change hazards, land use, and population distribution. By combining these datasets into one single, accessible platform, where they can be accessed and analysed independently or in combination, we aim to facilitate resource management and decision-making, building resilience against climate change. The platform is being developed on Google Earth Engine (GEE). At the same time, GEE offers access to a large variety of geodata sets on which to develop other applications to complement the platform, such as agricultural monitoring or flood assessment.
Who are you?
We are looking for a motivated intern with Google Earth Engine knowledge to join our team and contribute to The Gambia Webportal. Your tasks will involve adding new datasets to the platform, improving platform functionalities and exploring new applications, according to your interests and expertise. Ultimately, you will contribute to strengthening food and economic safety in The Gambia.
